Extreme A440F Toyota Land Cruiser Valve Body With 3rd & 4th Gear Lock-Up
Rodney Hudson-Davies posted at 13/09/2007

Here at Wholesale Automatic Transmissions we have spent the last 3-4 years refining our Extreme Recalibrated Stage II A440F Valve Body for all Toyota Landcruiser 60, 62 and 80 series up to late 1992 and now it is ready for release. Major features of our New Extreme Valve Body is far greater clamping load to all clutch packs and convertor lock-up eliminating slip when high HP/Torque engines are used and in the case of heavy towing, Eliminates over heating and transmission failure due to heat produced by Lock-Up slippage, Quicker and nice crisp instant shifts without the flaring and sloppy changes leaving the clutches with very little ware giving you a far greater transmission life span, No flaring on kick down, Higher cooler flow, Lock-Up in both 3rd and 4th gears instead of 4th gear lock-up only, Higher lube pressure and flow. Extreme Valve Body comes as either 4th gear lock-up only or 3rd And 4th gear lock-up.

Our Extreme Stage II Recalibrated change over valve bodies have not only been designed for all V8 conversions but also for all Turbo Charged and Super Charged and also for anybody including myself that wanted a sharper and more satisfying shift feel. Our New Recalibrated Valve Body is the same unit that is used on our Completely Rebuilt Extreme A440F 4 Speed Toyota Land Cruiser Transmissions and Kilm Bronzed and Micro Balanced Convertors.

We have also found that using full Synthetic transmission oils will lower the overall transmission temperature even further by a small amount and is also engineered to remain stable under the most severe conditions. We use Castrol "Transmax-z" but have also found that all Allison Transmission dealers have a product called "TranSynd" while Amsoil also have "ATF" and "ATD". All of these automatic transmission oils have one thing in common and that is that they are all Full Synthetic. They will NOT replace the need for a super low stall convertor but if you want that added edge on overall reliability then this is it.

We also don't discount a good oil cooler as we always will recommend a suitable cooler in any vehicle that runs a transmission. The transmission life span is mostly measured in heat, the hotter the transmission runs the shorter the life expectancy while the closer you can get your transmission to run at room temperature then your transmission is expected to last what is considered in repairers terms as a life time 350,000-500,000Km depending on usage and other unforseen factors.

I have added an almost full coverage of our Extreme A440F Valve Body below but as you can imagine I can't show everything that goes into our valve bodies.

This Is What We Start Out With, A Standard A440F Valve Body.

After The Valve Body Is Completely Striped Down We Re-machine All Surfaces. This Is The Lower Half.

This Is The Upper Half. We Use A Belt Sander Because It Machines The Whole Surface At Once. If We Used A Mill It Would Slowly Heat The Valve Body Up As It Went and That Would Distort The Surface As We Went. Maybe We Are Just Being To Fussy??

Even The Smallest Cover Plates Get Done.

Well This Really Speaks For It's Self Other Than To Say That We Open Up The Convertor Feed At This Point.

Once We are Done With The Plate We Hand Block The Plate To Make Sure That It Is Flat.

And This Is How It Comes Out After I have A Sore Arm.

Main Pressure Reg Valve and Boast Valve With The Old Standard Regulator Spring On The Left And Our New Spring On The Right. We Also Machine A Large Flat Spot On The Small End Of The Boast Valve.

Secondary Regulator Valve With The OLD Spring On The Left And Our New Spring On The Right

There Are 2 Hair Springs In The Valve Body That Both Hold A Steel Ball Like This. The Old Spring Is On The Right While A Pair Of Our New Modified Springs As Shown Here On The Right Are Fitted.

Cutting A Spacer That We Use To Aid One Of The Valves.

Here We See How It Would Look Once Fitted In Line.

I'm Messuring The Lock Up Valve Signal Spring. It Should be 1.885-1.900 This One Has Been Stretched During A Previous Rebuild And Will Make The Lock Up Come On Way To Late. We Make 4 Different Lock Up Systems For The A440F. Standard Lock Up, Early Lock Up and Full Time Forth Gear Lock Up.

Once We Have Machined All The Surfaces We Hand Wet Block Them For A Really Fine Finish.

This Is What It Looks Like Speed All Over My Bench.

This Is The 1-2 Accumulator That The Spacer Is Machined To Fit. The Accumulator Is Removed From The Case, Spring Discarded And Replaced Using The Spacer Instead Of The Spring.

Just As A Matter Of Interest This Is Our Complete Extreme Stage II Heavy Duty A440F Land Cruiser Transmission
